CHIVAYO STRIKES AGAIN: US$400 MILLION CANCER DEAL WITH MNANGAGWA’S OFFICE

Wicknell Chivayo is now making more money from the government. This time, he is getting over US$400 million for cancer treatment equipment. The deal was signed with the Office of the President and Cabinet, which shows how close he is to President Mnangagwa.
This new contract means Chivayo is not only doing business in electricity, defence, elections, internet and roads — he is now also in the health sector. Every time the government spends money, it looks like Chivayo is involved. While people are suffering, hospitals are collapsing, and cancer patients are dying with no medicine, Chivayo is smiling all the way to the bank.
The cancer treatment deal is huge. The government will pay him US$109,320,600 every year for the next four years. That’s more than US$400 million by the time the contract ends.
The payment plan is clear and already set. The first payment will be US$52.5 million, which the government must pay just two weeks after the contract is signed. Then, from April 2025, the government will pay him US$9.1 million every month until March 2026. That means, in one year alone, he will pocket the following payments:
- 30 April 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 May 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 30 June 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 July 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 August 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 30 September 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 October 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 30 November 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 December 2025 – US$9.1 million
- 31 January 2026 – US$9.1 million
- 28 February 2026 – US$9.1 million
- 30 March 2026 – US$9.1 million
The same payment schedule will repeat for three more years. That means by March 2029, Chivayo will have received the full US$437 million.
Every single cent will be paid in US dollars. And all of it will go straight into his bank account through electronic transfer.
This is happening while most Zimbabweans are struggling to buy bread. Cancer patients have no drugs. Hospitals have no machines. Nurses and doctors are underpaid. But somehow, the government has over US$400 million for Chivayo.
Many people now believe these deals are not for the people. They are only for the few who are close to power. It looks like the Office of the President is now just a business centre — giving out million-dollar contracts to friends while citizens suffer.
This is not the first time Chivayo has been involved in suspicious contracts. He got millions from the Gwanda solar project, but no electricity came. He was part of the ZEC tender scandal worth US$40 million. He has been linked to election material, road construction, and even defence deals. Now, it’s cancer treatment machines.
The government says it wants to fight corruption, but how can that be true when the same people keep getting all the money? Chivayo keeps winning tenders while opposition leaders get arrested, and poor people get nothing.
This is not how a country should be run. Zimbabwe needs real health services, not expensive deals that only make a few people rich. Cancer patients don’t need Wicknell Chivayo — they need working hospitals, trained doctors, and working machines.
This deal is a shame. It shows that under ZANU PF, the system is broken. The government is not for the people — it is for the connected.
