This may sound like a good gesture, but in truth it is another example of how Zanu PF keeps people poor so they can control them. This is not about creating a better life for all Zimbabweans. It is about keeping power in the hands of one party and using poverty as a weapon.

For many years, Zanu PF has built a system where only those close to the party or loyal to it get real help. Instead of building a strong economy that gives everyone a fair chance, they keep the majority poor. When people are poor, they are easier to control. They can be given small gifts like food, chickens or money in exchange for their votes or silence. This is the poverty model that Zanu PF has used for decades. It is deliberate and it is dangerous.

If the president truly cared about lifting people out of poverty, he would focus on creating jobs, building industries and making sure every Zimbabwean can earn a living without begging from politicians. He would make sure that farmers have access to markets, good seeds, and fair prices. He would make sure the education system prepares young people for work and that hospitals can treat the sick without charging them money they do not have. But Zanu PF does not want that. They want people to depend on them for small handouts so they can always say, “We are the ones who help you.”

Giving 10 000 chicks to the party’s women’s league is not real development. It is not even real empowerment. It is only for a small group that is already loyal to the party. What about the millions of Zimbabweans who are not in Zanu PF? What about those who have been suffering for years because of corruption, bad policies and lack of opportunities? They get nothing. This is why the poverty model works for Zanu PF — they make sure help is given to those who will keep them in power, and leave the rest to suffer.

In a normal country, the government helps everyone equally, no matter what political party they support. Resources belong to the people, not to one political group. But in Zimbabwe, Zanu PF acts like it owns everything — the land, the economy, and even the people. They treat citizens as if they should be grateful for any small thing they get, forgetting that it is their right to have a good life.

The truth is, giving out chicks will not change the economy. It will not stop the high prices in shops, it will not end unemployment, and it will not stop young people from leaving the country to look for work elsewhere. It is just another show to make it seem like the president is helping, when in fact he is keeping people in the same cycle of poverty.

Zanu PF has destroyed industries, scared away investors, and made Zimbabwe one of the poorest countries in the world. Now they pretend to be saviours by handing out small items to selected groups. This is not leadership. This is manipulation.

If we want real change, we must reject the poverty model. We must demand leaders who will fix the economy for everyone, not just for their friends and supporters. We must demand jobs, fair wages, and equal opportunities. Handouts may feed a family for a week, but a working economy can feed a whole nation forever.

The 10 000 chicks are not a gift. They are a chain to keep people tied to Zanu PF. It is time to break that chain and choose a future where every Zimbabwean has a fair chance to succeed without begging from politicians. This is the only way to end the poverty model once and for all.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa today gave 10 000 chicks and stockfeed to the Midlands Zanu PF…

[6,1
