Zimbabwe is once again being dragged into another dark chapter of political chaos. Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, the man who led the 2017 coup that removed Robert Mugabe, is now accusing his old rival Jonathan Moyo of treason. He claims Moyo secretly wrote a document that aims to change the country\u2019s political system and postpone elections from 2028 to 2035. This shocking revelation comes just before the ruling ZANU PF\u2019s annual conference in Mutare, and it has thrown the country into more confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chiwenga says Moyo\u2019s \u201cBreaking Barriers Initiative\u201d is a plot to suspend elections and destroy the foundations of democracy. He even claims that the plan is being secretly funded by businessmen like Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Wicknell Chivhayo, Scott Sakupwanya, and Delish Nguwaya \u2014 the same people who have looted billions of dollars while ordinary Zimbabweans starve. The irony is painful. The same Chiwenga who once overthrew Mugabe in the name of \u201crestoring order\u201d is now fighting the very monsters he helped create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This fight between Chiwenga and President Mnangagwa is not about the people. It is about power. It is about greed. It is about who will continue to control a country already bleeding from decades of corruption and misrule. While these powerful men exchange accusations, millions of Zimbabweans remain trapped in poverty, unable to find jobs or even basic healthcare. Prices are rising every day, schools are collapsing, and hospitals have no medicine. The only thing that keeps rising is the fear in people\u2019s hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Africa and other countries in the region are already feeling the pressure. Millions of Zimbabweans have fled across borders looking for work and survival. The political madness in Harare has become a regional problem. Yet, ZANU PF leaders continue to behave like kings in a dying kingdom, holding expensive conferences while citizens line up for bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The truth is that this country has never healed since the coup. In 2017, we were told that removing Mugabe would bring a \u201cnew beginning.\u201d But what we got was the same corruption wearing a different face. Mnangagwa came with promises of reform, but he surrounded himself with the same looters. Now, his own deputy is turning against him, accusing his allies of stealing and plotting. This is not leadership. This is a circus of greed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What is most painful is that these power struggles happen while people die in silence. They argue about who will rule in 2028 or 2035, but the poor man in Mbare, the teacher in Gokwe, the nurse in Mutoko \u2014 they all just want to live with dignity. They want a government that listens, not one that steals. They want justice, not propaganda. They want peace, not fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ZANU PF has failed to learn from history. From Mugabe\u2019s prison coup against Ndabaningi Sithole in the 1970s to the military coup in 2017, this party has always fed on betrayal. It has never respected the will of the people. And now, as Mnangagwa and Chiwenga tear each other apart, it is clear that their so-called revolution has devoured itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the people of Zimbabwe must not lose hope. The suffering is deep, but our spirit is stronger. We cannot allow these men to steal another decade of our lives. Whether they postpone elections or not, the demand for change cannot be silenced. We must continue to speak, to organize, to fight for a free Zimbabwe \u2014 one where power serves the people, not destroys them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
