ZANU PF IS NOW ARRESTING PEOPLE FOR CUTTING GRASS

Last night in Zimbabwe, something shocking happened again. A journalist and opposition supporter, Matthew Takaona, was arrested by the police just for cutting grass. Yes, cutting grass. This shows how bad things have become under ZANU PF. People are no longer safe for doing simple, helpful things in their communities.

Takaona is not just anyone. He is a well-known veteran journalist and now runs the Masvingo Mirror newspaper. He has also been openly supporting the opposition. He is a strong voice for change in our country. What he did in Gutu, near Mushayavanhu Primary School, was not a crime. He and others were clearing dangerous grass along a road to help drivers and children stay safe. But they were arrested just because they didn’t ask permission from a ZANU PF councillor, Benson Dandira.

The people who arrested him were not ordinary police. They were from a special team called the Ferret. This group includes police and intelligence officers. They act like they are above the law. They came down hard on Takaona and others, but in the end, they could not find any crime to charge them with. So they had to let them go. The lawyers told them the truth — there is nothing illegal about cutting grass on a public road, especially to save lives.

This is the Zimbabwe we are living in today. A country where doing good can get you arrested. A country where you must ask a ruling party politician before helping your own community. ZANU PF has been in power for 45 years, and in those years they have turned Zimbabwe into a country of fear and silence. Anyone who speaks up or takes action is treated like a criminal.

As an activist, I see this as another reason why we must continue fighting for freedom. We must not stop speaking up, even when they arrest us or threaten us. Takaona’s story is not new. Many of us have faced similar treatment. The regime fears people who take action without their control. They fear people who don’t bow down to them.

The arrest of Takaona also shows how deep the fear of losing power runs in ZANU PF. They do not want the people to help each other. They want all help to come through them so they can pretend to be the only ones who care. But we know the truth. We have seen how they have destroyed hospitals, schools, roads, and jobs. We have seen how they loot and enrich themselves while the people suffer.

When someone like Takaona stands up, it gives others hope. It shows that we still have brave men and women in this country. It shows that not everyone is afraid. It also reminds us that change will only come if we keep pushing. They can arrest us, but they cannot stop the truth.

This is why I write. This is why I speak. This is why I will never stop exposing the cruelty and fear that ZANU PF brings to our lives. They may try to scare us, but their time is running out. Zimbabwe belongs to the people, not to one party.

We salute Matthew Takaona. We stand with him. And we keep fighting. Because we know the power of the people is greater than the people in power. We will not be silent. We will not be stopped. One day, Zimbabwe will be free.
