PARLIAMENT NOW A CRIME SCENE AS MPs GET STANDS TO PROTECT MNANGAGWA

Parliament is supposed to be a place where leaders work for the people. But today, in Zimbabwe, Parliament has become a crime scene. This is what the Job Sikhala-led National Democratic Working Group is saying. They say Members of Parliament (MPs) are now more focused on getting money and benefits for themselves than working for the people who voted for them.
Reports say that some MPs met in Mabelreign, Harare. They went there to collect residential stands. These stands are believed to be bribes. The MPs are said to have received these stands so that they can support President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa is facing a possible impeachment. Some people want him removed from office. But these stands are being given to MPs so that they protect Mnangagwa by voting against his removal.
The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works confirmed that they gave out 70 residential stands to MPs. This happened two days ago. The stands were given in three places: 15 stands in Killarney, Goromonzi; 15 stands in Penrose, Zvimba; and 40 stands in Mabelreign, Harare.
The Ministry is saying that this is not a new thing. They say it started in 2013, during the 8th Parliament. According to them, the stands are a non-monetary benefit. They say it is supposed to help MPs with accommodation. They also say that this is part of their conditions of service.
But many Zimbabweans do not believe this story. They think this is just another way to bribe MPs. People are angry because the country is struggling. Many citizens cannot even afford food, school fees, and medical care. But MPs are getting land for free while ordinary people suffer.
In their press statement, the Ministry said Parliament of Zimbabwe has already been given many stands in the past. These include 188 stands in Goromonzi, 49 in Bulawayo, 12 in Chiredzi, 9 in Kadoma, and 5 in Beitbridge.
The Ministry said the latest 70 stands given out on the 9th of April 2025 were just part of this old programme. They said this is being done to improve the welfare of MPs, just like government is doing for war veterans, women, the youth, and civil servants.
But many people are not convinced. They are asking why this is happening now when Mnangagwa is facing impeachment. They believe the timing is not a coincidence. They think the stands are being given to buy loyalty from MPs.
Zimbabweans are worried that Parliament is no longer working for the people. Instead, it looks like MPs are now working for themselves and for Mnangagwa. This has made many people lose hope in their leaders.
The National Democratic Working Group is calling this a crime scene because they believe corruption is now the order of the day in Parliament. They say this is wrong because Parliament is supposed to protect the will of the people, not protect one man’s power.
Many citizens are now watching closely to see what will happen next. Will MPs protect Mnangagwa because of these stands? Or will they stand with the people and vote for what is right?
For now, Zimbabweans can only wait and hope that one day their leaders will remember who put them in power. The people are watching. And the people are not happy.
